aa @ 2:55 pm, June 24th 2009:

Hi, we also had insurance but similarly were told that until they go into liquidation our policy doesn't cover us. We paid by credit card, and are having similar arguments with the credit card people, although they have offered us the money for the accommodation back 'while they liase with go upmarket's bank'. we have put in an appeal against go upmarket being struck off, because we were told that if they do get dissolved we don't have a hope of getting our money back... we were told a dissolved company can't be taken to court. I think its worth arguing with the insurance company over the difference between liquidation and strike off action. Hope that helps

  1. Hi. We are in exactly the same predicament with our insurance company. They are hiding behind the phrases liquidation and bankruptcy. We have already put the struck off process on hold (via companies house), but, at the moment, I only see 2 options going forward.

    1) complain via the financial ombudsman of the decision made by the Insurance Company.
    Pro - Free.
Con - dont think that they have done anything against the rules

    2) try to make Go Upmarket Ltd Bankrupt / Liquidated.
    Con - costs money.
Pro - insurance companies will pay out.

I think that we should all join forces and try and get Go Upmarket Ltd Bankrupt / Liquidated ?

    What are your thoughts ?

  2. My money is gone, my incentive is to try prevent others becoming victims to the con being perpetrated by the Vinces... however I am happy to help in any way.

  3. I wonder if it is worth going to the financial omsbudsman first, as it is free - also I've been contacted by trading standards - they want me to fill in a form about the case.

  4. I think the Vince’s have been able to get away with playing the game of musical companies because victims have either never reported them to the authorities or else the reports have been in dribs and drabs therefore no alarm bells were ringing, thus allowing them to continue unabated below the radar. I sincerely hope to rectify this situation.

  5. Hi aa.
Thinking about this last night, the financial Ombudsman is there to rule on the Insurance Companies judgements.

However, in my case (and very likely yours) the decision of the insurance company is made on the basis that Go Upmarket Ltd are neither Bankrupt nor Liquidated. Unfortuantely, whilst they hide behind the 2 words, the policy that I took out states this quite clearly.

As such, whilst I will fill out the complaints form, and send to the Ombudsman, I am very keen to persue going through the courts to get Go Upmarket Ltd made bankrupt / placed into Liquidation.

AA, whould you be kind to either pass me your email address, or contact me on mine ?

  6. Hi,

My son and i (for my son's wedding) have successfully made a claim with our insurance company under the curtailment and cancellation clause rather than the liquidation clause.

We found that when discussing it with them on the phone they insisted we didnt have a valid claim, and it wasnt until we sent them a letter and included photo's and screen shots of what they still offer on their websites compared to what they actually have, that the claim was accepted.

It would also be worth checking company law as i thought that even if a company was struck off the register it was still possible to have them reinstated for various reasons.

  11. I have just read all these comments..looking for venue....and cannot believe that the Trading Standards & legal bods can DO NOTHING! What about Watchdog? Mind you, he/they would no doubt take no notice even if the Queen told him to stop cheating people.

    Stay well clear folks.......

  14. I've reported grandena to trading standards to investigate if it is 'under new management' as the website claims - if it is the Vinces, then I feel it is misrepresentation.

  15. I just tried to access the Grandena site and it looks like its been taken down - really really hope its cos trading standards are looking into it.

  16. Hello

I'm so sorry for all those who have lost money to these people.
We had our daughters wedding and reception at the hall, we had to accepte a very incomplete building. However it did go well, because of the staff working there at that time, in particular the young chef.

With people like Vince the staff may well have lost wages as well as their jobs. As in your site I'm sure the wedding planer and staff were in tears, being genuinly upset at the situation clients were in.

I dont beleive this is likly to be the case with Vince, who felt untrust-worthy and I found to be totally unprofressional. I retained payment until 3 days before the event. I now feel that we were very lucky

I would like to contact the chef as I would like to consider opening a resturant with him.

I hope anyone who has lost money gets together and continue to pursue these people, until they sample similar hurt and understand the stress they have caused.

I hope the chef see's this post and could contact me.
